Casita Triste (Sad little house)
Casita Triste, a guerrilla project launched in 2017 in Dallas, Texas's Oak Cliff neighborhood, blurs the lines between craft, art object, advocacy, and sentimental offering. These "Sad Little Houses," each measuring 20 x 28 x 20 inches, adopt anthropomorphic qualities, inviting viewers to empathize with the community's vulnerabilities, history, and collective experiences. Strewn across Oak Cliff, these piñata-based installations prompt dialogue about affordable housing challenges and community displacement, fostering awareness, reflection, and empathy.
In 2022, a rendition of Casita Triste emerged in Los Angeles, realized through the collaboration of high school students and Craft in America, Los Angeles.
